Portia Geach Memorial Award Entries

The  Portia Geach Memorial Award is Australia's most prestigious art prize for portraiture by female artists.


Entries to the 2017 Portia Geach Memorial Award open in June 2017 and close 31 August 2017.



The Portia Geach Memorial Award was established by the will of the late Florence Kate Geach in memory of her sister, Portia Geach. The non-acquisitive award of $30, 000 is awarded by the Trustee for the entry which is of the highest artistic merit, '...for the best portrait painted from life of some man or woman distinguished in Art, Letters, or the Sciences by any female artist resident in Australia during the twelve months preceding the close date for entries.' 


Application entries are accepted online only.

To enter artists need supply:

  •  An image of their completed work max 4MB in .jpeg or .tiff format 
  •  A copy of their CV in Microsoft Word or PDF format
  •  A 150 word artists statement about the work in Microsoft Word or PDF format

Read the application FAQ sheet prior to applying. 

Please note that entrants are unable to save incomplete applications and retrieve them at a later date. If entrants choose to leave a form incomplete they will be prompted to start a new form when next applying. 

All applications are judged via online visual submissions.
