The annual exhibition of finalists in the annual Portia Geach Memorial Award for Australian women portrait painters.

The winner of the 1997 Portia Geach Memorial Award was Maria Cruz with a self portrait titled Maria.

Commended works were by Su Baker, Mary Moore, Cecilia Tashiro and Madeleine Winch.

Judges: Christine France, Anne Graham and Terence Maloon.
